1. Introduction

As per the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Anti-Ragging Day is observed on 12th August every year to reaffirm the commitment towards creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment in higher education institutions. This observance is followed by Anti-Ragging Week from 12th August to 18th August, aimed at spreading awareness, preventing ragging, and sensitizing students about its harmful effects.

In accordance with these guidelines, Dr. D. Y. Patil Dnyan Prasad University – School of Management and Research, Pune constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee to prohibit ragging on campus and ensure strict compliance with UGC directives. The committee organized an awareness activity as part of Anti-Ragging Day & Week Celebration 2025.

 

2. Objective:

• To create awareness among students about the ill effects of ragging.

• To inform students about UGC’s regulations and legal provisions against ragging.

• To promote a culture of mutual respect, safety, and cooperation on campus.

• To encourage peer support and friendly interaction among students.


3. Program Highlights

3.1 Opening Remarks

The program commenced with an introductory speech by the Chairperson of the Anti-Ragging Committee, emphasizing the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and the importance of maintaining a safe and inclusive academic environment.

3.2 Awareness Presentation

A detailed presentation was delivered, covering:Definition of ragging as per UGC guidelines.

Legal consequences and punishments under the UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations.

Reporting mechanisms and helpline details.

Real-life case examples highlighting the seriousness of the issue.

3.3 Interactive Session

Students actively participated in an open discussion, sharing suggestions on how to foster a welcoming and respectful campus environment.

3.4 Awareness Material Distribution

Pamphlets and digital resources containing anti-ragging policies, helpline numbers, and complaint procedures were distributed among students.

3.5 Pledge Against Ragging

The event concluded with all participants taking an Anti-Ragging Pledge, committing to uphold dignity, safety, and harmony on campus.

 

4. Outcomes:

The awareness program achieved the following outcomes:Enhanced understanding of anti-ragging laws and policies among students.

Strengthened student–faculty trust and cooperation.

Renewed commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus.

Motivation for students to act as ambassadors for peace and respect.
