Brief Summary of Event
Recognizing the importance of mentorship in holistic student development, the Quality Improvement Cell (QIC) of Dr. D. Y. Patil Dnyan Prasad University’s School of Management & Research, Pune organized the Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "Mentoring Students: Building Trust and Guiding with Empathy". The FDP was conducted by Ms. Nupur Singh, Corporate Trainer and Leadership Coach, and was designed to empower faculty members with the mindset, skills, and strategies needed to become impactful mentors.
The important core modules covered by the facilitator included –
1. Use of 4Cs framework of mentoring which included – clarity of goals, connection, conversation, and commitment, for effective mentoring
2. Understanding different students’ profiles to understand today’s students’ behaviour and attitude and develop active listening strategies.
3. Solving case studies to connect, ask, reflect and enable the mentors to handle difficult conversations/ situations.
4. Grow model for effective execution of mentoring. This model included – Goal setting, reality as to current situation, Options / solutions available, and Will which denotes the way forward.
Key Takeaways –
Faculty left the program with actionable strategies to implement immediately in their mentoring roles.
Participants reported enhanced awareness of their own mentoring strengths and gaps.
The program created a foundation for a more cohesive and student-centric mentoring culture within the institution
